Representatives of SAMDA Nigeria and the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board visited Opebi Primary School on 24 April 2026 to evaluate facilities in preparation for the launch of the organisation’s Nigeria chapter.
The visit came after a productive meeting between both parties in Maryland, where they reviewed the hi-tech hall designated for the press conference and launch. Key aspects of the event were discussed, particularly the under-13 football tournament for boys and girls.
While the pitch was found to be well-prepared and properly marked, concerns were raised about readiness for the tournament scheduled for 12 to 16 April. The inspection highlighted several outstanding tasks, notably the need to prepare the players’ camp within the facility for habitation.
The camp requires thorough cleaning, and SAMDA Nigeria is expected to cater to the players with three meals daily, as well as provide a water tank.
Despite these challenges, SAMDA Nigeria representatives—Akeem Ishola, Godwin Aikigbe, and Sunny Epochi—expressed satisfaction with the overall condition of the camp, particularly the bedding arrangements across six spacious rooms designated for the teams.
The Chairman of SAMDA Nigeria, Tajudeen Disu, also commended the facility but acknowledged funding constraints that could impact preparations.
“I am highly impressed with the facility; it is clearly our best option. However, significant resources are required to make the camp comfortable for the players so they can perform at their best. At the moment, we do not have sufficient funds to meet these needs,” he said.
SAMDA Nigeria’s launch will begin with a press conference on April 9 at LASUBEB, followed by a football tournament scheduled to hold from April 12 to 16, 2026.
