The Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) has reaffirmed its backing for the forthcoming launch of SAMDA Nigeria scheduled for April.
The board expressed its support when representatives of both organisations met on Monday to conclude arrangements for a football tournament planned to mark the launch of the non-profit body known for promoting sports development.
The meeting, which took place at LASUBEB’s Maryland office in Lagos, centred on preparations for the championship that will involve under-13 boys and girls from public primary and junior secondary schools across the state.
Those who represented LASUBEB included Sports Director, Olajumoke Bakare; retired Sports Officer, Sobowale Safiudeen; and Sports Officer, Ademola Aladesuru. The SAMDA Nigeria delegation comprised its Chairman, Tajudeen Disu; Head of Media and Publicity, Godwin Aikigbe; and former Nigeria international footballer, Sunny Epochi.

Both sides agreed to work together to organise the tournament, scheduled to take place from 12 to 16 April 2026 at Opebi Primary School in Ikeja.
Speaking at the meeting, Bakare reiterated the board’s readiness to support programmes that promote sports development among schoolchildren. She noted that the planned tournament aligns with LASUBEB’s objective of encouraging physical activity and discovering young talents within the public school system.
“What you are doing is a commendable initiative and we at LASUBEB will support it in every way possible,” she said. “I particularly welcome programmes that involve children, and we assure you of our full support.”
The championship is expected to serve as a platform for grassroots talent identification while encouraging teamwork, discipline and healthy competition among young pupils in Lagos State.
