SAMDA Nigeria has released a detailed plan for the launch of the charity organisation in April, which will feature primarily a national football championship involving under‑13 boys and girls from public primary schools in Lagos State.
The championship, scheduled to take place at Opebi Primary School, Ikeja, Lagos, is designed to promote grassroots football development, encourage healthy competition among pupils, and provide young talents with a platform to showcase their abilities.
The event follows a press conference scheduled for Thursday, 9 April 2026, which will feature several notable sports personalities from across the federation.
Teams are expected to arrive at their campsites for registration on Sunday, 12 April 2026. Hostilities will commence on Monday, 13 April, and continue until Wednesday, 15 April 2026, with the event being rounded off on Thursday, 16 April 2026, when teams will depart for their respective destinations.
All teams will be accommodated in camp and provided with three meals a day by the organiser, SAMDA Nigeria.
Supported by the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, the event is expected to bring together pupils from public primary schools to participate in a well‑organised and competitive football tournament that will foster teamwork, discipline and sportsmanship among the participants.
Expressing his delight, Tajudeen Disu, the Chairman of SAMDA Nigeria, described this arrangement as the best, stating that he looked to use the championship as another opportunity to enhance Nigeria’s grassroots sports development.
“I am excited by this arrangement made possible by LASUBEB. Having all teams camped in the same facility will be an exciting scenario, reminiscent of my days as a grassroots football player,” said the former Nigeria defender.
He added: “What I find most interesting is that SAMDA is finally birthed in Nigeria. The preparation for the launch has been top‑notch because only the best is good enough, especially when Nigeria is expected to lead the continent in this regard. I am lucky to have a team of men of integrity; they have all been highly supportive, and the sky will be our starting point given their consistent unalloyed support.”
