The Chief Operating Officer for Africa, Monica Brown, has shared her excitement over the upcoming launch of the SAMDA Nigeria chapter, describing the birth of the non-profit organisation in the most populous Black nation as a powerful opportunity to execute the body’s mission.
Speaking ahead of the launch programme, which will be kick-started by a press conference on 9 April 2026, the workaholic South African said, “Nigeria presents a powerful opportunity for this mission. With its large and youthful population, the country holds immense potential to drive economic and social transformation across the continent.
“However, this potential is accompanied by persistent challenges, including unemployment among young people and limited structural support for women who already play vital roles in the economy. SAMDA Nigeria aims to address these gaps by creating pathways for inclusion, productivity and long-term growth.”
Brown, who is also the global Chief Operating Officer of the organisation currently operational in 26 African countries, added, “This moment marks more than anticipation; it signals a turning point filled with promise and purpose. The launch of the Saclepea Mah Development Association Nigeria represents far more than the opening of a new non-profit office. It reflects the beginning of a renewed commitment to African-driven solutions and a decisive shift toward action, ownership and impact. From the perspective of SAMDA’s leadership, this expansion is not simply about entering a new location but about strengthening a broader Pan-African vision rooted in empowerment and sustainable development.”
She seized the opportunity to underscore the aims and objectives of the body, which is headquartered in North Carolina, USA, saying, “At its core, SAMDA is guided by a philosophy that prioritises self-reliance over dependency. Rather than offering temporary relief, the organisation is built on the principle of equipping individuals and communities with the tools they need to thrive independently. This approach recognises that many well-intentioned initiatives fail because they rely too heavily on external support without building internal capacity. SAMDA seeks to address these issues by combining global standards with deep local engagement, ensuring that its programmes are both credible and contextually relevant.”
Nigeria is expected to play a pivotal role on the continent, and its executive, under the leadership of former Nigeria international Tajudeen Disu, has been working relentlessly to ensure a resounding launch, which will also feature an Under-13 football tournament that will see boys and girls showcasing their abilities at Opebi Primary School from 12 to 16 April 2026.
SAMDA is a global non-profit organisation with local chapters across continents. Its programmes focus on education and leadership, sports and culture, health and social progress, peace and security, economic empowerment, food security, and African unity, designed and delivered with local leaders.
For funders and impact investors, the body offers transparent reporting, strong governance and clear outcomes.
